Oh, no, she thought, but Raven couldn’t deny the proof staring her in the face.

She didn’t know where she got the grit to enter the elevator, seeing as how her initial instinct was to turn around and flee. She greeted them with a nod, murmured “Good morning,” then pressed the button for the floor she wanted. She stood stiffly with her back to them

“Good morning, Ms. Fletcher,” she heard Leon greet her. “This is Liza Stanton.”

Now that she had a name to the face, her mind clicked. Liza Stanton: 35 years old, Pittsburgh socialite, two-time divorcee. Each divorce was nasty and hogged the society pages. It was rumored that she was on the lookout for husband number three, preferably wealthy, just like the past men in her life.

Raven turned around as casually as she could muster and replied, “Yes, I recognized Ms. Stanton.”

“Ms. Fletcher works for Jacob Alexander.” Leon added, addressing Liza. “Liza has just agreed to sell us the rights to her autobiography,” Leon announced further.

“Who can say no to you,” Liza added sexily. “You convinced me so resolutely over the weekend,” she replied with a suggestive giggle.

Raven didn’t know how she managed a straight face. It felt like the elevator walls were closing in on her. The air inside was suddenly stifling. As they passed more floors and more people entered, Raven found herself pushed backward near Leon and Liza.

Suddenly Raven felt someone caress her ass. She immediately knew it was him because she was standing right in front of him. She stifled the urge to react and cause a scene and was relieved when the lift finally arrived at her floor.

She gave Leon and Liza a curt nod and pushed her way out of the crowded lift. She walked on wooden legs as she entered her office. She tottered to a nearby chair unable to prevent the images that assaulted her.

“Oh my god, oh my god…” she repeated weakly, unable to control the shaking inside her body.

Her fears had been confirmed, and it left her feeling numb and dead inside.
